CSC is a British Weight Lifting affiliated club, providing dedicated Olympic Weightlifting classes in a professional but relaxed environment. Our sessions focus on the two competition lifts — the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk — together with the strength, technical and accessory work required to develop them. Whether you’ve never picked up a barbell before, use Weightlifting to complement your CrossFit training, or want to step onto a competition platform, you’ll train alongside people of different abilities with access to qualified, experienced Weightlifting coaches.

A British
Weight Lifting
affiliated club

Weightlifting isn’t simply something we include because barbells feature in CrossFit. CSC operates as a British Weight Lifting affiliated club, with coaches who have specific qualifications and experience in Olympic Weightlifting. That gives our members access to a genuine Weightlifting environment within CSC — whether they want to learn the sport recreationally, improve their technique or pursue it competitively. You don’t have to become a competitive weightlifter. But you can learn and train the sport properly.

Qualified, experienced coaching

The Snatch and Clean & Jerk are highly technical movements. Good Weightlifting coaching is about considerably more than telling someone to pull harder or get underneath the bar faster. Our coaches teach the lifts progressively, observe movement, identify technical priorities and provide individual feedback and appropriate exercises to help you improve. We also understand that different lifters move differently. Coaching isn’t about forcing everybody into an identical model — it’s about helping you find effective, repeatable technique that works for you.

Beginners are genuinely welcome

You don't need any previous Weightlifting experience to join our classes. If you've never performed a Snatch or Clean & Jerk before, we'll teach you. Movements can be broken down into manageable stages, with appropriate loads and exercises used while you develop the positions, coordination, mobility and confidence required for the complete lifts. Nobody starts by being good at Weightlifting. Learning is part of the process.

An all-abilities environment

Our Weightlifting classes aren't reserved for the strongest people in the gym. Beginners, recreational lifters, CrossFit athletes and competitive weightlifters can all train within the same session because the training can be adjusted around individual experience, ability and goals. One athlete might be learning a position with an empty bar. Another might be preparing to attempt a personal best. Both belong in the room.

Structured training, individual coaching

Every Weightlifting class has a planned training structure, but that doesn't mean everyone needs exactly the same thing from it. Sessions can include Snatch and Clean & Jerk variations, technical drills, squats, pulls, presses and accessory exercises, with coaches providing individual feedback throughout. The programme gives the session direction. The coaching helps you apply it to your lifting.

Technique before numbers

Lifting more weight is part of Weightlifting — but simply adding kilos isn't always the fastest way to improve. We place a strong emphasis on developing sound technique, consistent movement and confidence under the bar. As those qualities improve, strength can be expressed more effectively and heavier lifts become increasingly repeatable rather than occasional successes. The objective isn't just to lift more. It's to become a better weightlifter.

Strength, speed and skill

Olympic Weightlifting develops a unique combination of physical qualities. The lifts require strength, power, speed, coordination, mobility, balance and precision, making Weightlifting both a sport in its own right and an excellent complement to other forms of training. For CrossFit athletes, improved Weightlifting technique can make barbell movements more efficient and consistent. For athletes from other sports, it can provide a powerful method of developing strength and explosive capability. And for those who simply enjoy lifting? Getting better at the lifts is reason enough.

There is no expectation that joining our Weightlifting classes means you have to compete. You can train because you enjoy it. But if you decide you’d like to test yourself, being part of a British Weight Lifting club gives you a clear route.

We take the quality of our coaching seriously. That doesn’t mean the environment has to be intimidating. Our Weightlifting sessions are relaxed, welcoming and supportive, with lifters of different ages, backgrounds and abilities.
