Newsletter - March 2018

It looks like we are set for a white easter! April is upon us so we wanted to take the time to update you on what is happened in March, announce our April Member of the Month and let you know whats happening of note in CSC throughout April.

This month we are please to announce Julie Addison as our Member of the Month.

Julie has been on a conditioning membership here at CSC for 2 years, in that time she has learnt new skills and always comes in with a positive mindset and willingness to work hard.

She has complimented the conditioning classes with the Gym Jones sessions and has grown into an amazing athlete. Last month she took part in the open and smashed it being sensible knowing where to scale and where to do the Rx. Amazing work Julie and very well done

Firstly, a massive shout out to everyone who took part in the Crossfit open. If it was your first go at the open, learn from it and work on your weak areas. If you are an old hand, how did you do, did you do better than previous years? Overall we are stunned at the number of members who took up the challenge and went for it. Absolutely great to see.

We have Battle of Britain coming up, Amir, Lucie, Sam Heath and Ryan have qualified. The spectator tickets are on sale for this on the Battle of Britain website which includes an entry for things like rowing wod and gymnastics classes so it’s a good day out to support the guys and have a day of learning. If anyone did the qualifiers they get a free spectators ticket. The event is also looking for helpers on the day so if you want t help out contact the guys and have a great day and support the guys from CSC.

Come along and watch athletes go head to head and find out who comes out on top in the 2018 Battle of Britain Throwdown. The finals will be held on Saturday the 21st April 2017 at the Birmingham International Futsal Arena, UK. Children under 16 get in free - no ticket needed.

Another thing we are doing in May is taking a look back at the history of CSC and redoing the first months programming from 2013. For the lifelong members, its a chance to see how far you've come and how things have changed. More on this in next months newsletter but definitely one to look out for.

Don't forget we have a new service within CSC offering performance therapy and rehabilitation consultations. Currently, the sessions are on Thursday and Fridays from 17:00 - 20:00. your first consultation is free with 50% off standard prices until June 2018. Our Heor wod is

Marine James Robert Wright was part of Juliet Company, 42 Commando Royal Marines, serving as part of Combined Force Nad ‘Ali (North). On 5 August 2011 his patrol was involved in a significant engagement with insurgents in the Shpazh Gerebian area of Nad ‘Ali district.

After being pinned down by accurate fire for several hours, the patrol managed to extract themselves back to their base at Checkpoint Kamiabi. The checkpoint then came under attack from small arms fire and underslung grenade launchers. Marine Wright was wounded by a grenade which was fired into the checkpoint. He was extracted to the hospital at Camp Bastion where sadly, despite medical treatment, he later died of his wounds.

James will be sorely missed by his grandparents, father, David, mother Sallie, sister Katie, and partner Shelley, their baby who never got to meet his father. He will be remembered as a loving son, a brother, godfather and friend.

The Easter break is upon us and we are taking the opportunity to make the most of the bank holidays. make sure you make the most of the break and take time to get outside and relax. the box will still be here when your back and you won't lose any progress or gains during the time off. Rest is just as important. Spend time with family and friends and have fun.

Some other exciting things to look out for is a potential new tool we will be using in the box to help you all get a better experience during Wods, and hopefully, help you reach your goals more easily. cant say too much at the moment as we are still in the process of finalising our plans, but we are excited to move into the 21st century. Watch this space...
