Newsletter - October 2017

The clocks have gone back and the dark nights are here. Even more of an excuse to get down to CSC and warm up with a spicy WOD or two. This month we celebrate our newest member of the month, congratulate some qualifications, shout out to some competitors and sort out festivities with the CSC Xmas event. Remeber all the up to the minute news can be found on the team Facebook page, but here's a recap of October ...

Our Member of the Month for October is

Kelly Mills

Kelly has been a member at CSC since February 2016. Kelly had to drop to a conditioning membership whilst her husband worked away and she struggled to attend due to childcare. Now her husband is back in the UK she has started doing WODs again and has been progressing so well and pushing hard. Dropping to the conditioning membership and attending when she could, has not held her back. Kelly also took part in the Central Staffs Cup same-sex pairs and achieved so much from the experience. 

Well done Kelly.

With Christmas 🎄 not to far away. 

This year we have organised the following:

Saturday 9th December 2017
10am - massive Christmas WOD (60 people max) 
6pm-8pm cocktail making at the box with
9-9.30pm we all meet @ Revolution, Stafford. 

The WOD  🏋 🏋️‍♀️you can book on via team app as you would normally. 

The cocktail making:

We have ordered a company called Savva Bars to come in. 

They will bring a number of bar stations where you can work in teams of 2-4, you will be shown how to make your very own cocktails (then of course you get to drink them after!) 

We have provisionally booked for 40 people. So it will be first come serve. 

It is £20 per person, you can pay this by giving it to one of the coaches.

If we get a high interest i can always see if we can extend the numbers. 

(We have to confirm the numbers by 25th November!!!) so you don't have long.
Please do not leave it till the last minute, the more people we get, the more fun we have, the better it is 🎉

If you do not wish to take part in the cocktail making, then you're more than welcome to come down and watch people throw some bottles around. There will be a few nibbles available and I'm sure a bit of music on too. 

After all that fun we will all meet in Revolution bar and we can get our dancing shoes on, as I know you all love it. 💃 

You have all worked hard together this year, so it's a great way to let your hair down, have some fun and be proud of what every single one of you has achieved this year!! This goes for everyone, people who have been here for years, a few months, just done their foundations or just walked through the door this week and done a taster or first conditioning, 

Hope we can see a few of you throwing some burpees, bottles and moves about!!!


we wanted to give a shout out to Richard Penwright and Coach Amir Khan who competed at Rep It Out UK event in Halifax on the 8th of October. The guys battled hard to place 15th/64 teams. Well done both.


We just wanted to say that we are so very very proud of all the people from CSC that entered the Central Staffs Cup. Its amazing to see people take what we have taught and put It to good use in a competitive environment and walk away after having fun and with no injuries. Well done to each and every one of you and we hope that you will take that experience and apply it to the internal Coaches cup in January.

We also wanted to thank every one from the box who came to support and cheer on those competing, it made for a great atmosphere and all of the reviews about the event have been positive and nearly all reference the warm welcoming feel they received.

An Finally, A huge thank you to everyone who provided help and assistance over the two days. we could not run these competitions without your help so a huge huge huge thank you to all involved with making this an event to remember.


A few of the members recently took part in the Gym Jones fundamentals seminar. Gav Heath. Amir Khan and Lucie Anslow travelled down to the Ministry Gym in Basingstoke, to attend the seminar.

Rob “Bobby Maximus” Macdonald took the guys through the philosophy of the gym and the through a few of their workouts and a nice rowing and skierg relay to finish the weekend off. Well done guys on achieving your level 1 qualification and to the start of your journey.

For those of you yet to give one of our Gym Jones Classes a go, we hold classes every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Each class is programmed and Coached by Paul Shelley so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

In the early hours of 15 October, the BRF deployed from Camp Bastion into the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province to counter an imminent threat to both the Afghan population and the International Security Assistance Force.

Towards the end of the operation Lance Corporal Brynin’s section became the target of enemy fire. Together with a sniper and machine gunner of the BRF, Lance Corporal Brynin returned fire, but while extracting from the area he received a fatal gunshot wound.

With the winter months closing in its important to keep motivated during the cold winter days. It will take lots of effort to keep your training in check but please remember the box is warm and welcoming and a good place to shake of the winter blues. Also keep on top of your vitamin D intake, this can help with your mood amongst other things. Please remember to take extra time to warm up as the cold draws in, keep moving, stretch and mobilise before a wad if possible.
