Our CSC member of the year is non other than Sam Heath.
Walking through our doors on the 11th Jan 2015 Sam shone with nothing but enthusiasm, encouragement and drive. Sam was physically unable to squat what so ever during the Foundations Course but patience, persistence and listening to the CSC coaches during the 8 sessions paid off when she was soon putting a weighted bar on her back and squatting full depth with ease shortly after completing her Foundations.
Sam quickly made friends in the community and ending up bringing a good 7-8 friends along to the next Foundations as she was so happy with her improvements! She is a bubbly, lovely character and someone who you know will pick you up if you have come in not having a very good day by making you smile. If she is your partner in a WOD she makes sure you work hard and get the best out of the session.
For those who don't know the CrossFit Open competition began in February and is an international online competition where any member of a CrossFit affiliate can compete against one another ,against yourself or your community. Workouts are designed by CrossFit HQ and are designed to be tough. You complete the workouts against others around the world then post your scores on an online scoreboard to be ranked in your appropriate age categories and ability. Sam hit this challenge head on giving herself a benchmark for the coming year.
Testing herself mentally and physically against thousands of others and against her friends in the Box Sam hit the last workout 16.5 comprising of Thrusters and Burpees ! It was a very difficult mental battle but Sam persevered and completed the WOD. We mention this as she re-tested this workout a few weeks ago and has incredibly took over 6 minutes off her time and had a considerably heavier Barbell!!
Week after week passed and Sam could be found in the 06:30 class turning up twice a week. What started as 2 classes a week for 2 months quickly elevated to 3-4 classes a week and with the support of the CSC coaches Sam continued to improve in all areas of her movements and was shining on all fronts. Sam also continued to set and smash personal goals such as Climbing a Rope and skipping Double Unders,
Sam had had a very difficult year of which her husband Gav, Family & close friends will know but throughout her hard times she persisted in her training and made sure she kept positive towards herself and staying happy,
A great role model and incredibly strong Lady,
Sam hats off to you from all of the Coaching Staff and members at CSC,

A big congratulations to Coach Lucie Anslow and her partner in crime Lizzy Smith who went and tackled the ORE CrossFit throwdown on Sunday 4th December. The girls tackled the RX comp and came 1st. Well done ladies, great to see members teaming up with partners outside of the CSC community. Remember to keep an eye on the whiteboard for more competitions going down in 2017. The more support we can give the greater our overall achievements will be.
Again Well done both.
Coach Carlie Johns, Member Richard Penwright, with Beth Lee and Member Jonty Bryan took part in the "Super Human Throwdown" hosted in Bristol on the 3rd December. The Super Human throwdowns are synonymous with gruelling WOD's, and formidable competitors, and these guys represented CSC incredibly. Carlie and Rich placed 11th out of 220, with Jon and Beth placing 44th. Sorry Rich I couldn't find a picture of you :-/
Well done all, good to see the CSC banner flying high.
PC David John Rathband
This months hero WOD honours PC Rathband, please join us on the last Friday of the month to remember our hero's the best way we can.. David had his first taste of police life when he joined the West Midlands constabulary as a special constable. He went on to join the Northumbria force in January 2000 where his determination and strong character was quickly recognised. David excelled within the force and went on to serve the for just over 10 years. After being critically injured on duty, David left the force and birthed a charity which continues to serve injured service men and woman today.

End of Year Roundup
2016 What a Year...
Well Guys can you believe another year has passed?! I know I can’t but as they say “time flies when you’re having fun”. I can speak for all the coaches on this one when I say it has been fun and a pleasure coaching you through the year.
We’ve seen many new members join and its been fantastic seeing a lot of them come from foundations and become great characters in regular WOD’s and the welcoming nature of the longer term members has been awesome to witness as well. I’ve travelled to a lot of boxes worldwide and can hand on heart say CSC is a special place. Seeing you all develop and grow is humbling to see. Thanks to all you that make it so special!
During the course of the year we’ve tried to bring you as much as we can to help you all achieve your goals and hopefully encourage you to try something new from gymnastics, weightlifting, Gym Jones or nutritional guidance and its again been great seeing those of you that have been willing to get out of your safe zones and go for it. If you haven’t already tried any of the additional classes come give them a go in 2017!!
As for 2017 they’ll be more to come. Keep the positive vibe guys, thanks for inspiring me.
Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and wishing you all the best for the New Year.
